The Bald and the Beautiful

Yesterday we shaved H2's head and gave H1 a haircut. They both look adorable! And H1 kept on saying how her hair looked like a brush now (Her cut was a bob).

Today, just after waking up, I kissed H2's head and said, 'The bald and the beautiful.' H1 who is exteamly vain, always assumes that if someone mentions 'beautiful', they would invariably mean her! So she said, 'No Ammi, it's the bald and the brush!'

  5. The girls, the girls, they are so adorable! Now tell me, Surani, because I am curious and they don't generally do this in Canada (probably because it's so freaking cold here half the year): is there a special reason for shaving a baby's head? Is it connected to Buddhism? When I was born, I was probably the least-hairy baby in the maternity ward and apparently lots of hair on a baby's head was sought after, so my Mum was a little jealous of the other babies' furry noggins. :)

  6. Thanks everyone.

Knatolee - Sri Lankans believe that if you shave the head, the babies will have a thick mane! Actually, I think parents do this to an auspicious time. It's tradition more than related to religion I think. We just did it because we thought it's more comfortable for the baby because it's so damn hot in Colombo and were scolded by all (including total strangers) because they think the baby is too young for this :)

  7. Thanks for the explanation, Sue! I was wondering if it might also have something to do with the heat. I can't believe total strangers were scolding you!!! :(
